OUD
From a few of his compositions, Thimios Atzakas proposes you to explore the world of Greek contemporary modal music and the first scales’ systems (diatonic, chromatic, pentatonic) which still constitute the basis of this music. The workshop will particularly be focused on the power of modal improvisation, by using contemporary techniques adapted to the instrument: tapping, extended legatos, fingerpicking and fingerstyle...
Finally, you will work on a selection of polyrhythmic mélodies from Northern Greece, enriched with modal elements and maqâmât.
